Volunteers

As a member-driven organization, CIR relies on the involvement of volunteers to manage our interesting and varied programs.  Volunteering with CIR is a rewarding experience.  Some activities require little time commitment, while others take more time but return greater rewards.  Volunteer opportunities are listed below.

International Visitor Leaders Program (IVLP)
Become a “Citizen Diplomat” by volunteering to help with the International Visitor (IV) program.  Schedule appointments, accompany visitors to meetings, host visitors in your home for dinner and make new friends.  Contact Don Goldman or David King.

Lecture Series
Lectures feature well-known speakers focused on international issues.  The committee works together to plan lecture themes, organize speakers, prepare venue and greet and check-in arriving attendees.  Contact Chris van Schayk.

World Affairs Dinner/Lunch Discussions
The World Affairs Discussion Committee provides you an opportunity to plan themes and events, be a speaker, be a table moderator and greet and check-in attendees.  Contact Beverlee Anderson.

Special Events Committee
This committee plans events such as dinners for visiting ambassadors and dignitaries who are not part of the lecture series, fund raising events such as the summer lecture series and other events as opportunities arise.  Volunteers help plan the event, help secure the venue and catering, assist with check-in and escort the visitors.  Contact Tom McDermott.

CIR Travel Committee
The CIR Travel Committee plans from one to three trips a year for groups of CIR members.  These trips are aimed at giving members the opportunity to travel to places that may be important to our understanding of international events.  Committee members help plan trips, work with travel industry professionals to make arrangements and lead trips groups.  Contact Steve Kutay.

CIR Office Volunteer Opportunities
Get to know CIR members and our community by helping with daily or occasional office tasks.  We are always in need of help with data entry, answering the phone, taking reservations, preparing visitor itineraries and other clerical tasks.  Contact Patti Poitras.

Development Committee
Help the committee implement its fund-raising plan by identifying sponsor opportunities and roles, expanding our donor prospect list, researching local, regional and national funding sources, developing a Donor Recognition Program and revising and expanding CIR’s case statement.  Contact Art McHaffie.

Information Technology
Assistance is needed for Website maintenance, audio/visual set up at events, database design and data entry.  Contact Patti Poitras.

Do you want to help shape the organization’s image or reach out to potential new member groups?  Join the Marketing Committee and help create marketing materials (brochures, media kits, advertising, etc.) expand publicity and public relations activities, participate in our speaker’s bureau and hone CIR’s research and polling procedures.  Contact Holly Bradshaw Eakes.

Membership Committee
In addition to welcoming new members, the membership committee determines the interests of new members and connects them with committees that will enhance their CIR involvement.  We also plan and coordinate receptions for new members.  Contact Kathleen Nichols.

Reception Committee
Host International Visitor Group Receptions or other social events in your home, or simply help us prepare hors d’oeuvres.  We always need help with set-up, parking and other details.  Contact Steve Kutay.
